Polyurethane (PUR) hot melts are reactive adhesives. After the adhesive has been applied PUR hotmelts will start crosslinking. The reaction time is mostly between 24 en 48 hours. The reaction time must not been confused with the fast setting time, hotmelts in general are known for. A PUR hotmelt still can have a fast setting time from several seconds.
PUR hotmelts are known as very dureable, heat-,cold, and waterresistant. PUR hotmelts do bond to most materials as wood, paper, board, glass, metal and most plastics. PUR Hotmelt do not give a bond to untreated PolyEthylene (PE) or PolyPropylene (PP). PE and PP can be treated, e.g. with Corona, to improve the bond of a PUR hotmelt on these substrates. We always advice to test the materials and adhesive and ensure quality, before setting up large productions.
PUR hotmelts are commonly used in:
• Assembling industries, assembling products like fridges.
• Wood industries, e.g. panel production
• Textile industries
• Graphical industries (glue lap bonding)
• Bookbinding industries
Some products require translucent or other products bonding, that has to withstand UV light as well. Most of our Polyurethane recipies can be made UV resistant with adding UV blocking components, it's also possible to use our fully transparant and UV stable PUR hotmelt. This hotmelt does not need (non transparant) UV blocking components and keeps Fully transparent all the time.
